GRE

I recently took a practice test for the GRE and got a 143 on the verbal and 139 on the math portion. Is it normal to do this badly on the test right off the bat without previous knowledge?I really feel discouraged to pursue an advanced degree. I'm a college graduate. Does anyone know any inspirational GRE success stores? I'm going to take an intermediate algebra course to brush up on my math next semester and I'm studying verbal on my own. I also plan on taking a kaplan course. If anyone could share their stories that would be great. The school I'm applying to has a minimum of 150 on the verbal and 140 on the math.
