"Beginning in July 2017, the Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Residency will separate into two distinct training programs. Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, two of the core training sites for the current program will each launch new training programs in July of 2017."

It seems as though Beth Israel is now affiliated with Mount Sinai and not Harvard.

As someone who is applying into psychiatry this year, can anyone comment on how this will affect the residency training?

You're thinking of Mount Sinai and Beth Israel in New York. BIDMC is, and will continue to be, a Harvard-affiliated hospital (one of the big three--BWH, MGH, BIDMC.)

While I think a lot of the strength of the program is that you get exposure to psychiatry at both BWH and BIDMC, parts of the experience are already fragmented (~half of third year is either BIDMC or BWH and 4th year chief roles are usually on one service.) Both institutions will be strong and both will still be affiliated with MMHC (Mass Mental was years ago an exceptionally well regarded, separate training program.)

Hi, I'm a senior resident at the current Harvard Longwood Psychiatry program. Beth Israel Deaconess will recruit for an independent program this fall and Brigham and Women's will do so as well. The leadership of both "new" programs are the current leaders of the Longwood program and will continue to work closely together as they run the current Longwood program. Each new program brings with it the best of the Longwood experience along with new ideas. Residents in the new programs will train alongside current Longwood residents and will have the benefit of Longwood activities as well as activities specific to the new program. The interns at each programs will have Longwood residents as their senior residents.
