hi guys, i would like feedback from you guys. I can get a teachers certificate with this major. What do you think the future of health educators is? will schools always need to employ health teachers?

can i get some objective feedback regarding this degree?
-Please tell me if its worth it
-what you would consider a better option,
-what you think the future holds for this degree regarding salary and pay.

Thank you soo much for you constructive criticism/feedback.

I am planning to eventually go to PT school of course, but that is uncertain right now because of some personal issues. otherwise i wouldn't care about my bachelors degree.

I will still take all my PT pre-reqs just in case and if it does work out. I don't mind taking extra science classes, ect. hey more knowledge to me! and i can plan them so that it wont set me back on graduation.

Also, do PT pre-reqs 'expire', like nursing school when you have to retake the pre-req classes again if its been 5 yrs since you last took them.

Call me ignorant, i dont mind, but I never heard of a health promotions degree before. It's used to become a health teacher im assuming from your post?

Anyway, I never had a health class in high-school, I had one in middle school back in the day, way back in the day. Im 25 so.....I dont know if they even have health teachers at middle school level anymore. Here in Florida, i think they are trying to get rid of physical education because of the budget crisis we have in the state. My college professor told me her daughter took an online P.E. class. Just imagine what that means for health classes.

I can get a teachers certificate with my major too (exercise science), anybody can get a teachers certificate, you just have to go to a community college and take extra classes for 1 or 2 semesters and you can get certified (i.e. a person who majored in finance, went to a CC, took like 7 classes and got certified and he was my Algebra 2 teacher in highschool). What I dont know is what subject i'll be able to teach with an exercise science degree.

Pertaining to expiring pre-reqs, yes they do expire for some schools. Some schools do require that pre-reqs are no older than 7 years from the date of application.

I cant tell you if its worth it, what do you want to major in? That would be a better option, is to find out what you want to major in and do that. And since I had a health class in middle school and not in high-school, isn't the pay for middle school teachers like 30K?

I earned a BS in Health Science. The degree was supposed to allow me to work in Corporate Wellness programs. With the recession, those jobs are scarce. If I hadn't been accepted into PT school (my intended field all along) I think I would have ended up as a health screener getting paid squat. Be careful on the degree program you chose. Make sure there are really jobs available in that field.

Thanks for the replies!!

I think health promotions is pretty much health science/exercise science degree with different name. I graduate with with a certificate that would allow me to be a certified health education specialist.

Been doing job searches and alot of health education jobs in hospitals, ect are requiring nursing degrees because of the clinical background. schools don't do health anymore or combine it into PE classes.
