So from what I've seen, the lower the heat of hydrogenation or combustion, the more stable the compound.

Does every "heat of something" follow this rule? For example, are compounds with lower heats of hydration also more stable?

Lower would mean more negative as well.

You would have to use the equation

(delta)G = (delta)H - T(delta)S

The lower H is the lower (delta)G is.

-G is exerogonic or will occur spontaneous. The lower your (delta)G the more favored your products are.

If the compounds have a low (delta)H and undergo the reaction of hydrogenation or combustion then the products would be "more stable" because (delta)G would be more positive (unspontaneous)
