Well I just wanted to say hello!!

I will be starting udergrad in August and I had a whole lot of question about being a first year Pre-Med. But reading through the message board you guys answered most of my questions. Especially about the one about being a science major to get into medical school. I love science but not that much!

Well I am trying to decide between these two books so I can get a better ideal of the pre-med process and applying to med school and stuff like that so I decied to ask your opinion. Since you all seem so helpful!

So tell me which one you guys think is the best read: Becoming a Physician by Jenniefer and Marita Danek or The Complete Medical School Preparation and Admissions Guid by Andrew Goliszek.

So tell me what you guys thinks! and CONGRADULATIONS TO EVERYONE ON THERE ACCEPTANCE TO MED-SCHOOL!! KICK @$$!!!

Hi, and welcome! :) You're going to love this site. It is so helpful! Good luck in college!

Welcome to SDN!

I haven't read either book, but I don't know how useful either one would be. I bought a book by Kaplan on how to get into med school, and I didn't find it too useful. Have you looked at the SDN guide to med school admissions? It is at http://www.studentdoctor.net/guide/index.html - very useful. That guide and these boards answered any questions that I had! Good luck!

I have the Danek book, and I thought it was pretty helpful. I also have the Princeton guide to medical schools, which has lots of useful information.

hey divine diva,
my advice is to take only 2 pre-med requirements that have labs at a time (and take 2 other classes for your major or that you enjoy). it gets really stressful taking 3 lab classes at once. i'd suggest:

freshman: 1 year of chem, 1 year of bio
sophomore: 1 year of ochem, 1 year of physics
junior: more bio
senior: whatever you want!

oh yeah... and you'll need some math and english.
good luck! :)

welcome to sdn, diva. hopefully the search will be up after the 4th, so you can then be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of info available in these forums :)

Thank you all for such a warm welcome as well as the advice!!!

You all are truely grrrrrrrreat!

Lesson #1: Alcohol will get you through anything.

Lesson #2: If having a hard time in school, see lesson #1.

Lesson #3: Enjoy yourself and stay away from this board until you apply to medical school.

Lesson #4: With the free time you have from not visiting this board, see lesson #1.

well said Scoobs! And on that note, I think I'll go "study" lesson #1

i agree with scooby. loosely plan the classes you'll take, so you don't have to cram it all in. also, make sure you're doing some extracurricular activities that you enjoy -- at least one or two should be medically related. other than that, work hard & have some fun! don't come here often to see us all worrying. it's just not healthy  wait until you're actually applying before you go crazy with all this stuff!

Hey thanks for all the advice. Especially your's Scooby. Lesson#1 proved to be really good on Graduation night :D

At least thats what I was told

Lesson #1 is good on ANY night!

Diva welcome to SDN....btw....how YOU doin?:D
