Fat embolus syndrome (FES)
- Associated w/ multiple traumatic injuries and surgery involving long-bone Fx.
- Incidence in isolated long-bone fractures is 34%, mortality is 1020%.
- Signs = petechiae, hypoxemia, CNS depression, pulmonary edema.
- Reversal of hypovolemia
- Early surgical stabilization
- Aggressive respiratory support
- Corticosteroid (controversial)
