How Important is Research?

My grades weren't stellar, I was somewhere in the middle which is why that research really helped I'm sure. I think other things certainly do look good but I do know that the competitive specialties, especially urology, are very research oriented fields. Having that research is never going to be bad.

See if you can work with some clinical faculty on a case report or simple clinical research to beef up the resume and do something a bit more interesting. Or try for a clinical preceptorship over the summer.

What is a "clinical preceptorship" exactly?

Basically an intensive shadowing experience. Generally something like a 40-hour week in a specific practice... though parameters may vary by school.
