It seems like time varies for everyone in each subsection of the PAT. It would be nice to see the spread and average of how much time people spend on each section. I think it'll benefit anyone who is just beginning to study for the PAT with this poll/survey. You don't have to answer every question here. The purpose of this thread is to just obtain how much time you spend per section (and/or per question). Thanks to those who contribute!

1) Keyhole

  • Total Time:8-10
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated):12-14
  • Method (optional): Can imagine it inside my head. & POE

2) TFE

  • Total Time:8
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated):10-12
  • Method (optional):pOE works great

3) Angles

  • Total Time:5
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated):10-15
  • Method (optional):If you overlook it you get it wrong go w/ the gut & POE

4) Hole Punching

  • Total Time:6-8
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated):13-15
  • Method (optional):can eliminate answers very easily and imagine working backwards... from the last hole punch.

5) Cube Counting

  • Total Time: 8 max
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated):15
  • Method (optional):Keep track off everything in a table. Count from back to front.

6) Folding

  • Total Time: 8
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated):10-13

got a 20 for pat.

1) keyhole

  • total time: 7-9
  • per question:
  • accuracy (estimated): 15
  • method (optional): Just pictured it in my head.

2) tfe

  • total time:7-9
  • per question:
  • accuracy (estimated): 14/15
  • method (optional): Mostly imagining it but if it's difficult, count edges.

3) angles

  • total time: 8-10
  • per question:
  • accuracy (estimated): 13-15
  • method (optional): Obviously, look at choices for inconsistencies relative to appropriate sizes as quick as possible. If it comes down to two angles, i used "riding the bike down the hill" or the "laptop trick".

4) hole punching

  • total time: 4-6
  • per question:
  • accuracy (estimated): 15
  • method (optional): Just imagining the folding backwards.

5) cube counting

  • total time: 6-8
  • per question:
  • accuracy (estimated): 15
  • method (optional): Kept track in my head, counted from bottom up.

6) folding

  • total time: 6-9
  • per question:
  • accuracy (estimated): 13-15
  • method (optional):

I want to bump this as I'm kind of struggling with timing. And for this question scores aren't helpful unless it proves what you did was effective. Thanks!

KeyHoles: 30-40 sec
TFE: 30 sec max
Hole punching: 20-25 sec (blow through it)
Angle Ranking: 20-25 sec (I blow through it and trust my instincts)
Cube Counting (Not sure but timing has never been an issue here)
Pattern Folding: 1 min

I personally spend more time with Keyholes and pattern folding because I find that those questions are the most tricky...choosing to eliminate based on answer choices rather than first visualizing the answer (like in hole punching and TFE)

I still do the worst for keyholes and pattern folding but i get around a 20 on DAT bootcamp

1) Keyhole
  • Total Time: ~12 minutes
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated): 70%?
  • Method (optional): I go through each answer choice and eliminate where I can

2) TFE
  • Total Time: ~10 minutes
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated): 90%
  • Method (optional): Taking the most obvious features shown (i.e. what should be popping out or what should have something going through) I eliminate the most obvious, and then narrow it down to one

3) Angles
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated): 50%
  • Method (optional): My weakest section. I use the hill slope/laptop methods.

4) Hole Punching
  • Total Time: 8 minutes
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated): 95%
  • Method (optional): I draw a grid. Very easy.

5) Cube Counting
  • Total Time: 8 minutes
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated): 90%
  • Method (optional): I draw a chart and just count all the cube faces.

6) Folding
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Per Question:
  • Accuracy (estimated): 85%
  • Method (optional): I just eliminate the answer choices.
I got a 22 on the PAT.

So I'm going to need some more practice...especially on pattern folding. Thanks, guys :) Good to know.
