1 PI + 2 science faculty + work-for-pay boss + 1 faculty from non-science minor = 5 LORs

It's helpful to have letters that cover the following areas:

1. 2-3 science professor letters (always best to have a back-up letter)
2. 1 community service
3. 1 research, if this applies to you
4. 1 leadership
5. 1 clinical
6. 1 non-science professor letter

The best letters often cover multiple areas, for example a letter from an experience in which you held a leadership role in a community service organization. There are lots of possibilities. It's critical to make sure that you have back-up letters, especially for the science professor letters. You can customize which letters each school receives on the AMCAS application. The letters of recommendation are due with the secondary application deadlines. It's critical to submit all secondary applications and letters of rec within two weeks of receiving the secondary invitations.

For more information on letters of recommendation, please see this article. Good luck!

Thank youuu, it's really helpful.

Another question, did you read the letters before they submitted it? Could you give your opinion about them if you don't like a part or if you want to emphasize a point? Or is it seen as a bad thing to do?

you have to waive your right to view the letters....

You shouldn't do it. It is looked upon negatively! You'll be better off just talking with the person before they write it and asking them to focus on certain aspects of your resume!

I have six:

- math professor
- physics professor (MD/PhD)
- research PI
- volunteer coordinator (clinical)
- another volunteer coordinator who can speak to my leadership
- athletics coach

Only had 3, which were used by my committee to create the committee letter.
