$4,187.95 (+ miscellaneous expenses: food, cab fares, etc.)

I'm pretty much done with the whole process, but if I get one or two more interviews, I'll be hitting $5000. Ridiculous.

1800 AMCAS and Secondaries
1500 Suit, luggage, accessories
400 for two interviews

3,700!

A lot! Here's some math:

$1000 for AMCAS (30 schools)
Lots more for secondaries: 28 secondaries * $75 average application fee = $2100
Suit/shoes/luggage: $500 dollars
7 plane tickets so far (!!!), with shuttles ($20 to airport, $20 from airport)
Cabs (if needed)
Gifts for student host ($20 each)

Yikes! :eek:

But it is all worth it. :D

I really am afraid to count. It hurts less if I just leave it be.

i hope this thread dies quickly. :)
i really don't want to think about this at all.
many, many thousand dollars for sure.

I don't hope it dies....misery loves company/I need a support group.

AMCAS: ~ $730
17 secondaries: lowest was $40, at Howard, so let's just say 17x40 for $680
Interview suit and shoes: $550
Flight to Emory: $400
Flight to EVMS: $320
Hotels for 3 nights: $210
Gas for interviews at $25 per, for the 6 I drove to: $150
---------------------------
Total of just under $3100; add tolls, food, and that fu*king EZPass camara ticket and we're talking 3300-3500.

3 schools have deposit money from me, at 100 bones per (Emory does NOT require a deposit, I will note).

Next up - housing deposits and loans....the application process is a drop in the bucket, or perhaps, our hazing for the rest of this expensive adventure.

...a three hour tour, a three hour tour...

hazing, definitely hazing :)

Ok my excel sheet tells me this information:

Kaplan: 1,449
MCAT: 190
AMCAS Primaries: 1,240
Secondaries: 2,350
Travel (air/car etc): 979
Hotel/Food: 328
UNC Deposit: 100

Grand Total:$6,636 (give or take a few dollars) .. that is after I cancelled 6 interviews and turned down 2 secondaries .....omagine the total if I had to go to those ..oh boy.....

Using CanIMakeIt's number plus adding about $600 to the secondary total, $500 to the travel total, $400 to the hotel/food total, and suit/shoes/shirt/tie/etc at ~$1200 leaves me at: ~ $9100 :eek: .

Damn, that is way too much money being spent.

Thanks. :) It's the least I can do. They are opening up their home to me, and, plus, they are saving me the money I would spend on a hotel.

50 schools? Secondaries to all of em? OVER 8K easily...

My wallet is anorexic. All excercise but no food.

Pre-Application:
MCAT = $250 (abroad, computer-based)
MCAT Travel = $310
MCAT Prep = $45

Primaries = $750
Secondaries = $400 (Scrapped 5)

Travel to the US = $750
US domestic flights = $500
Hotels = $300 (Had friends in two cities :thumbup: )
Car Rental = $250

Other:
Gas= $120
New Suitcase = $30
Food = $100
Gifts for LOR writers = $60

Total = $3,865

I think I needed to actually figure this out for myself. I seriously underestimated the expense.

Deposit for Univ. of Cincinnati = $0.00 (I LOVE THEM. Even their 2ndary fee was only $25.)

i'm around the $5K mark too...but what makes me feel "better" is that med school will easily cost over $100K.

$730 i think for amcas
$1500 + for secondaries
$200 for mcat
wasting my entire summer to study for that $hit... PRICELESS.

at least $2400 so far --and so far both my interviews are in NY (no traveling!). but can i add the $300 i spent on those shoes this fall? :)

Schools applied = 10

AMCAS = 0

Secondaries = 0

UCSF interview : hotel, trip, food, etc = 120

UCLA interviews: gas: 5

Total thus far: $125

Thank god for the AAMC assited program I received all ten medical applications for free. You should of asked for aid from medical schools. Schools such as UCLA and UCSF will help out on airfare and waive secondary fees if you just ask.

God. I'm trying not to think about this. I've had to fly out to all the interviews, not to mention that I sent back in 18 secondaries. Does the Kaplan class count too?

I don't count anything that isn't directly related to applying, which means the suit, and even the Kaplan class. I'm not counting meals, either, cause hey, I'd be eating anyhow.

I'm at $4100 right now with 3 interviews left, which will probably bring me just short of $5000. I mentioned this to a friend within earshot of my father, who is mercifully footing this bill, and the man damn near flipped out.

whoa. I went to Sears, bought a blazer and skirt and shoes for less than $100. Gotta look for the bargains!!

I went to one of those suit warehouses and I got a nice italian wool suit for $99. $250 is like Men's Warehouses like prices.

really? never heard that any med school will pay for your airfare .. it's nice if they do that though =)

No no, thats suit plus luggage, portfolio, etc...

Suit was 8smth. I couldn't find anything my size at Macy's, Nordstrom's, etc...

I'm saving a lot of money since I didn't get many interviews, so it's all good.
