Hey everyone,

So I'm a pre dental junior at my school and I've been looking at different options in or near Illinois. As an Illinois resident, i'd love to stay near where I am. Going to UIC would be amazing, and I've also considered Midwestern University in Downer's Grove, but the tuition is 65k (They're like 98% more than other dental schools). So, what would be the "max" tuition I shouldn't go past? I know avg is around 35-40, but how much debt to people usually come out with?

Thanks!

I'm a Texas resident and Baylor here is absurdly affordable. Something like 15K a year. Needless to say, if I get in there I'm going.

I hate you, I want to be a Texan soooo bad for that tuition. But being a NY resident isn't so bad I guess.

I have no desire to he a Texas resident, but I do like that tuition!

I like your taste in music.

Are you having someone pay for everything else? Might as well look at total. Midwestern is 90k+ total and uic is 60k+. Then there's the interest.

I think you're either looking at old numbers for UIC or their semesterly tuition numbers.

From the 2014 ADEA guide :

1st year 2nd year 3rd year 4th year

Tuition: $29,948 $44,922 $44,922 $44,922
Tuition other*: $6,920 $10,380 $10,380 $10,380
Fees: $3,932 $5,898 $5,898 $5,898
Instruments, books, supplies: $2,000 $2,000 $2,000 $2,000
Estimated living expenses: $20,000 $20,000 $20,000 $20,000

Totals: $62,800 $83,197 $83,197 $83,197

Adding it all up you're at $312,391. Compare that to some other private schools, and UIC is not as cheap as you think a state school would be. Marquette for comparison totaled out to $319,093 for a non-resident. Their numbers were figuring ~ $24,000 for living expenses too.

Look into other schools and do some more homework. As an IL resident, SIUE is by far the cheapest option.
