Hi all,
I'm a recent college graduate who's been seeking a
full time research assistant position in nj, ny area.
Even though I'm a math major, I thought it'd be
relatively easy to land a research assistant position
in a lab since I've taken premed classes (also a
biomedical engineering minor).
I've applied to more than 10 jobs that have been
posted online including columbia, cornell medical
center, New York State Psychiatric Institute, and
etc.

well.. I'm just frustrated by this process of landing
a job. I really like to know if in reality online job postings
on those medical centers are not open to college graduates from other university... or is it just that there are so many
well qualified college graduates seeking a research
assistant position?

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!

Networking! Hook up with a prof at your college and see where it takes you. An alternative is to contact the PIs at the research institute that you are interested directly. Sometimes, the problem is not with you but slugs at HR. Hope this helps. :p

I would do what undergrads do, troll the university labs. Maybe you can go through the websites first and see what research they are doing, read a few articles, then show up or cold call. I know quite a few people that landed great research assistant jobs like that.
