How to get off waitlists

I know there are a lot of people who successfully get off the waitlists every year. How did you do it? Would you be willing to share your success stories? Did you write the schools every week, or did you just get a package in the mail? I've been writing the schools, but being near the end of June, I can't help but get anxious.

i hate to say it but for me, but it almost seems to me as if getting off certain waitlists requires almost no effort....no update letters, no letter of interests/intenet, and even no grade updates. that was the case for me at two schools in which i seriously considered going if they'd offer me a nice financial aid package. however, since they didn't, i won't attend. on the other hand, i've written a ton to schools like vandy, pitt, and columbia and got nothing but: "at this time, our policy is to not give applicant any feedback regarding their chances of getting in...blah blah".
