Hey guys- Just been accepted to a couple of medical schools and am interested in becoming military doctor.

I've heard there are minimum requirements to even apply for an armed forces health professions scholarship?? I thought these scholarships weren't competitive but in my research I think it seems they've recently become more? What do you guys think?

What if you don't meet it- any other options?

Thanks for the feedback

Current minimums GPA - 3.0, MCATs 24.

Army is not accepting 7s or less on the MCAT at this time.

The closer you are to the minimums, the less competitive you are.

Other options? You can wait for a 2 or 3 year scholarship after proving yourself in med school. After med school you can enter the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) if you are in a needed specialty.

what if you have multiple MCAT scores?

For the Army they look at the latest score.

Also, for the Army the minimum GPA is 3.2 and as NavyFP stated for MCAT, 24 with nothing less than 8 in each category. Anectdotally for the recruiting year for 2014 starts, the average so far is:

Applicant GPA = 3.7
Select GPA = 3.7

Applicant MCAT = 29.9
Select MCAT = 30.2
