This morning I got an email from UCSF with a link to their supplemental application! Apparently I only have 2 weeks to complete it...Eek! I'm so excited though!

Did everyone who applied get a secondary? Or has there already been a cut? I got mine too, but figured this was compulsory.

Their website says "Only qualified applicants are invited to complete the supplemental application..." so in a way, I guess that's a "cut."

This "cut" is not a rejection though, is it? =S

I also got an email from them that I have 14 days to fill out the supplementary...but there's no link. It said to wait for a follow up email. I'm OOS if that matters

I got the follow-up email with the link about an hour after the 1st email....

if you didn't get the supplemental chances are you didn't meet the minimum requirements at UCSF, so it's most likely a "rejection" already.

Likewise, it took about an hour but I got the follow up.

Only 2 weeks???? Dude, that's a long time...how much time do you need?

Wow, they even have a timer that counts down. It's making me sweat a little.

What..that's awesome Berkguy!

Right when I read your first post I thought...If you don't have any other commitments this summer, you could finish it early, walk it over to San Fransisco, and pretty much hand deliver it to the admissions office (if you're still in Berkeley). You'd be like the first person to be reviewed for interviews.

dude...

Haha, I like the way you think. :) I don't know how that'd work though, cuz it's all electronic! The print format might be kinda weird.

Wait a timer? Like a 14 day timer? Or a couple hours timer? I'm out if town and can't do it right away so I'm scared to even click the link if the timer is gonna start running.

It's a 14-day timer that begins running (I believe) when the email with the link in it is sent.

Ohh cool haha that's a relief. Thanks.

I hope you did not misunderstand. The timer runs whether or not you click the link. Once the account is created for you, it starts. Just making sure that's clear so you don't wait too long.

No I understand. I could it in a couple of days just not right now. I just didn't want there to be a timer that gives a couple hours to complete the secondary which is ultimately due in 14 days. Thank you though.

The essay portions weren't as bad as I thought. I had applied to UCSF 2 years ago and they were the same questions, but I decided to write completely new ones since they put character limits on the essays. I really hope I can get into UCSF, I live like 15 minutes away and can save a lot of money living at home.

I'm from that foggy lil daly city yo! Yea ucsf would be ideal.

Did anyone get the first email and not the follow up email with the link? I'm still waiting for the second email...

I basically hate writing essays about myself. THat's why it takes me forever. You could be telling a great story but the way you tell it comes across as pompous or boring.

Just submitted my secondary today. That timer is hilarious, I thought you guys were joking. Hopefully we all get in, if not somewhere else. Good luck guys and gals.

I called the admissions people several weeks ago and they said that they send a secondary to every applicant.. But I haven't received mine yet and my application was verified a couple weeks ago... >___< eek! Scared! Anyone in the same situation??? I'm starting to freak out!!

:DI got my secondary today!!! mailing date was 7/22 with a complete app.

YAY! i got mine too :D super excited. there's so many questions but the character limits are so short!! it's so hard to make everything fit in the limit

sorry, loosely related question..

did anyone hear anything from UCLA yet? Even just a confirmation that they received your application? i haven't gotten anything

Nope. I think they're one of the schools that get started late.

should I worry if my application was mailed on July 18th and I haven't even received a receipt of application from UCSF by email?

I have seven (7) days left to submit my UCSF secondary. Is there any real advantage to my submitting it today, versus a few days from now?

I think it's better to be satisfied with what you wrote then rush it in. I'm going to take the entire 2 weeks to write the supplemental essays, get them revised by my school's writing specialists, then submit. Mine is also due in a week.

Oh...Never mind..I thought Berkguy's app was mailed on July 18th as well...

stupid question...The worksheet says Course # as "Chem 3A" but the actual form has a space for Course Title (abbreviate if necessary). Does that mean that the Course Title will be "Intro to General Chemistry" or did you put "Chem" in Course Title and "1A" in the Course #?

Using your example, I put "chem3a" as the course # and "intro to general chemistry" in the course title. Just whatever your schools registrar has as the title.

As for receiving the secondary, CA residents need a 2.7 min gpa while non-CA residents need a min 3.0. You also need a min of 17AA

How long are your guys' essays for the 1500 word limit ones?

I had a question regarding the prereq section. So when they say to ONLY list the classes the fulfill their MINIMUM requirements does this mean that if you took, for example, ochem 1a,1b,and 1c that you only would include 1a and 1b because they ask for a MINIMUM of two quarters?? I'm a little confused about this so if anyone could please provide some insight. thank you!

Mine are almost all near the max limit.

Oh I read words not characters initially :p I was freaking out about writing pretty much 4500 words total for the essays until I figured out it was characters. Thank god!

Also, if you have taken an AP class that fufills a prereq but also taken classes to fulfill that prereq should you list both?? I'm just confused because it says to ONLY enter those that fulfill the MINIMUM prereqs...

Yeah I had the same question. I asked UCSF and they said to list the minimum number of classes that will satisfy the minimum number of units. For OCHEM I had a 5 unit semester class which only accounts for 7.5 quarter units. Since it was 0.5 units shy of the required 8 units I added my second term of OCHEM. Hope this helps.

Do we have to fill in i. Additional electives to bring the total number of units to at least 139 quarter units or 93 semester units. (Recommended: embryology, comparative vertebrate anatomy, genetics, statistics)

Is anyone going to fill out the last essay question about additional information?? I know it's optional but I always get scared leaving things blank...

I'd leave it blank unless you've done research that you can talk about or bad grades that need explaining.

OH shooot mine is due in eight hours and I only have one of the essays complete. FML.

i filled it out. you should put something down

But what if I have nothing to write? I don't want to talk about my low GPA and anything else I say would pretty much be mirroring my personal statement and things that are already in my AADSAS. I suppose it doesn't really matter?
