I'm a college student that had plans of being a nurse anesthetist and now wonder if medical school is where I should of started. I took all of my schools BSN requirements like microbio, A&P, chemistry, etc... The science classes were all relatively easy for me. I got into the BSN program at my University and completed 2 semesters and then dropped out. The second semester, I couldn't stand the clinical work in the sense that I wanted to be the one diagnosing, prescribing the meds, etc..not be the one pulling out catheters, pushing meds, or giving sponge baths to patients. In other words, I felt that I was not using my brain at all the help the patient through medicine like the way I wanted to. I was instead following orders and following prewritten steps on how to push meds or prepare a patients bed. I also was around lots of doctors in the hospital and hated the fact that doctors called the shots, not nurses. I've always wanted to be the best at what I do, and hated the fact that doctors were superior. I ultimately knew deep down this wasn't the best road for me and had to cut bait. If I was going to do healthcare, I'd want to be a doctor.
I enjoyed my science classes, and the study of medicine (pharmacology, pathophysiology, etc...). Through all of my pre-reqs and nursing classes I've maintenance just shy of a 4.0, at a 3.96 GPA.
Should I at all give medical school consideration? I know I probably shot myself in the foot if I decide on Med school with dropping out of nursing school, however I think it could be done providing I rock the MCAT and keep my GPA high. If I didn't like nursing school for the reasons I gave, would I not like medical school as well?
Thanks for your time.
