...see that info? If they can, wouldn't this negatively affect your chances at other institutions?? If this really is the case, I feel as if it's not really "fair" too the applicant (albeit, life isn't fair after all...).

My understanding is that they can't see your other acceptances unless they've already accepted you as well. So it shouldn't affect your chances at other institutions.

That sounds more legitimate.
Thanks!

straight from the AMCAS manual:

"The AAMC disseminates application information to medical schools to which you have applied. The AAMC also shares acceptance information across schools in order to assist medical schools’s adherence to AAMC recommendations. This acceptance data is shared as follows:

a) Beginning in February of each year, a medical school that has accepted an applicant can view the other school or schools that have accepted the applicant, if applicable.
b) Beginning in April of each year, a medical school can view the school or schools that have accepted an applicant, even if that applicant has not yet been accepted by the medical school."

basically, if a school accepts you, it can see where else you're accepted starting in february. by april, any school you've applied to can see where else you've been accepted.

hmm... sounds like a convenient way for a school to manipulate waitlist movement.

surely, but it also helps some schools to not waste their time accepting students that are already accepted elsewhere.

every school understands that applicants hold multiple acceptances until financial aid season and second look weekends. it is expected. in spring, the system can work to the applicant's advantage again when schools start waitlist movement, they often will try to take people they know haven't received acceptances yet, as those people have a high likelihood of actually attending.
