Just a heads up for those of you scrambling today. TRIs at Inspira Vineland do not get fair consideration for the Inspira programs despite what they are told at the time of contract. 7 interns out of 15 in the TRI program went to Inspira after the GME office expressed that they would recieve a schedule favorable to applying to Emergency Medicine at Inspira. This was to include multiple electives, possible away rotations to support applications to other programs and fair consideration for EM at Inspira. Not one person matched ... This is the second year of the same results. There is always an argument against unfavorable applications for a competative field, this is understandable. However, Inspira examined every TRI application prior to acceptance and continued to make the claims as mentioned above. They then rushed the decision of each applicant by giving them 2 hours to have the contract signed and returned. Even for those applicants who scrambled well after the MD match was over. Do not do a TRI at Inspira unless you are hoping for an OB position. They traditionally only take OBs into the program after a TRI. Out of 15 TRIs in Vineland, only 3 were taken into programs this year. Two of the 3 recieved their field of choice in OB and IM. It took considerable convincing by co-residents for them to consider ranking a TRI for the IM spot, even though it was more than deserved by the resident. Inspira routinely uses TRIs to fill thier less desirable programs which do not fill in the match. Do not fall for the hard sell, they do not follow through on their claims. Bottom line, the GME department is not to be trusted if you are a TRI. Take it for what it's worth. Do yourself a favor and do not scramble to Inspira for a TRI. After speaking with other TRIs around the country, there are certainly programs available which operate with more integrity.

To update. Inspira did take some of the TRIs into programs post match in the scramble. However, none in the EM program as is their standard and apparent intention. It was only after they could not fill in the match that they bothered to consider the TRI program interns as candidates for their other programs. Do not expect transparency with communication in regard to the EM program. The GME office will make claims when they pressure you to sign on the dotted line but they will not follow through on promises made. No matter what they tell you, they do not honor away rotations, multiple electives, or a preferable schedule for your field of choice. A TRI at Inspira is an Internal Med year with 2 full months of night float and an additional 5 months of IM. They round it off with 1 or 2 months of gen surgery, 1 month cardiology, 1 month of EM, 1 elective. NO OB, NO peds, NO out patient experience of any kind, NO ICU, NO Ortho ... Do not consider Inspira if you are determined to be EM or if you have a strong application for another field. Not only will you be losing the opportunity to show your stuff to a program who will actually consider you ... but they will demoralize your efforts by dangling the carrot all year without communicating their lack of intention.

Spoke to someone about Inspira. FYI: Inspira TRI does not let individuals out of the TRI if a residency opens. Many programs will release you from obligation, but Inspira apparently does not.

for those interested in EM, where did they end up going? What elective time do TRIs at Inspira get to do aways and interview for match?
