If you get an interview...what is the probability of acceptance?

Members don't see this ad.

25 to 35% for most allopathic schools, so you're not out of the woods yet!

I'd like to know this too. For the %interviewed vs %accepted statistics, I usually see that it's about 40% of those interviewed are accepted. Is there another way of estimating this? Am I missing something? Thanks.

The US News book shows all these data for schools: applied, interviewed, accepted, matriculated. If you have a particular school you're curious about, I can check for you.

Hey jochi- could you please check URochester and Case if you get a chance? Thanks!

I think 40% is about average, but depending on the school it could be higher or lower. But, the 40% number includes everybody, those who were accepted a week after their interview, those who were accepted in a month or in three, and those who were put on and eventually came off the waitlist and accepted (up to a day before classes started). I dont have the msar but I dont think there are any statistics on what percent of those acceptances were waitlisters at one time or another.

Could you please check Indiana University for me please? Thanks!

Um...

Just divide the number of people accepted by the number of people interviewed?

If the number accepted (not number matriculated) is not listed in your MSAR, then call each of your specific schools to ask.

For state schools, pay attention to resident vs. non-resident #'s.

Jochi, can you check Upstate Medical, too, please?

I love you

Baylor and UT Southwestern please! You're the greatest!!! :D

Haha, I thought you meant interviews are greater than acceptances and I was like wtf.

Some are lower, University of Michigan 170/800 or 21% only.

They have 170 matriculate, but let in about 350. Most schools give acceptances to ~2.5x class size.

;)Bump.

Anybody know the stats for Pittsburgh? It would be greatly appreciated!

my top choice is <25%! that's a little disconcerting. hopefully, they will notice that my mcat is >4 points above their average and automatically accept me.

Hey mints, are you going by the usnews book? I noticed your #'s are different from the ones I see on the website, which has data for Fall 2005. The data in the book are for which year?

The data on the website:
In-state:
interviewed: 174
Accepted: 91
%: 52.3%

Out-of-state:
interviewed: 894
Accepted: 367
%: 41.1%

Total: 458 of 1068 accepted (42.9%)

Is your data more recent?

Anyone have acceptance info about SUNY Upstate?

US News for Fall 2005. This discrepancy is comforting.

Jochi, if you're feeling particularly generous, could you give the stats for:

Jefferson Medical College
Temple
Virginia Commonwealth/MCV
NYMC
University of Maryland

I'm a PA resident, so in-state numbers are particularly of interest for Jeff and Temple, and likewise with out of state numbers for the others.

Edit: I didn't mean to ask about so many schools.....I'm most interested in Jeff and MCV, if you'd be so kind. The others would just be gravy, and may help some other people on here, but I'm already asking you a favor and I don't want to sound demanding.

THANK YOU!

By the way, the discrepancy you might see in these numbers is that Baylor has a strong in-state preference because Texas pays to lower Baylor's tuition to around the public school level ($10,000/year).

Also, most people that apply to UTSW and Baylor would pick Baylor over UTSW.

You're going to work her to death.

I'll save some work for you:
all U.S. allopathic and osteopathic schools
if you interview well: p>0
if you suck at interviews: p=0.
it's as simple as that.

Good lord! look at how few oos people apply to utsw!! Is the texas application process that hard? Those seems like great odds for oos applicants~

Good lord! look at how few oos people apply to utsw!! Is the texas application process that hard? Those seems like great odds for oos applicants~

Texas schools (besides Baylor) must take 90% in-state. Baylor ends up taking 75% in-state. Oh, and it's a completely separate app. I think that's what turns most people off. Were they to use AMCAS like everyone else (Baylor already does), you'd see more OOS folks in the pool.

Besides, to apply to 4 out of the 6 Texas schools, it only costs $85. Including Tech & A&M, it's $195. You get a far better deal than applying to most private schools if application costs are a primary concern!

you know you can get full access to this info for only $14.95? Then you can peruse it at your leisure. after the amount of money we have spent on applications and traveling for interviews the extra $15 is not much. and it provides a way to pass the time until october 15..... :scared:

Something does not seem right, so you are telling me UMD interviewed over 3600 applicants last year, yet the latest MSAR says they only interviewed 476, someone's numbers seem screwed up, the MSAR seems low, but yours seem way way too high
