Interview later or earlier?

Sorry if this is a FAQ. Obviously for med school admission, interviewing earlier was the name of the game. How is it for residencies? My cousin (an IMG from England) is applying for this year's match, and has a bunch of interview offers. Is it better to take the earlier dates, if given a choice? Given that rank order lists are due much much later, perhaps PD's tend to remember people who interviewed closer to rank submission date... opinions?
