Is private practice still a realistic option for new graduates?

I understand, the billing/coding needs to be precise in order to make this happen, but with guidelines becoming more stringent how realistic is it to still come out of residency and open up a practice (solo or group) or buy into a partnership/take over an existing one and still make a decent living ~200k in mid-sized area population.

If I were inclined to go solo, I'd do direct pay. You would have zero negotiating clout with payers as a solo doc in an insurance-based practice, which would suck.

Do you mean direct primary care (monthly fee?) or are you referring to a-la-carte based medicine menu with cash prices for visit/procedures/labs?
