It helps that statistically speaking you will get a higher chance of acceptance in the 24-30MCAT range and 3.2-3.6. Outside of these ranges the URM benefit tapers off. However the overall acceptance rate for hispanics is about the same for other races.
Yes it helps. The medical community believes that if they bring in students from underrepresented communities they will be more likely to go back and provide care in those communities. In the interest of increasing health care access to under served communities, they are much more lenient on their admissions requirements of URM's.
