Hey guys - I have a lower science GPA (~3.12) than my cum GPA (3.51), mainly because I got C's in both orgo 1 and 2 and a couple C's in labs. How bad does this look as an applicant and can anything else make up for it?

Side note - I'm awful at orgo and tried my butt off but still couldn't make it through the class. I have A's in upper level classes like microbio, A&P, biochem etc.

Apart from grades, I'm a marketing major and I'm studying for my MCAT right now and taking it in September, so can't gauge that yet.

As far as everything goes:
- currently working as an ER scribe (1.5 years now)
- 4 month internship in the O.R. with pediatric surgeon
- piano teacher for 2 years
- presented physics research at our undergraduate research day
- working on pulmonary lung research in the kinesiology department
- volunteered with junior achievement to teach HS kids business skills
- volunteered as an English teacher in Italy for 3 months
- medical brigade in Honduras
- volunteer at local children's hospital for 6 months
- VP of cultural organization on campus
- member of a student sales and marketing program
- bilingual, female, not a minority, TX resident

I don't think my grades are competitive enough for MD, so I figure my best bet is D.O. Can anyone give me some advice or insight for when I apply this cycle?

At this point, it all depends on the MCAT, but if you can pull off 29+ TCOM might be up your alley.

Agree with your judgment on MD.

maybe some of the newer schools would be forgiving (VCOM-CC, ACOM, MUCOM, CUSOM)

TUNCOM reports a 3.23 sGPA

other than that, you're starting to get into some decently far reaches... i strongly suggest retaking anything below a B-

A 3.12 isn't lethal, but limits your chances at the better DO schools. Typically, when we interview someone with a number like like, one or more of my colleagues will say " nice guy/gal, but I'm worried about the sGPA", and ontot he waitlist you go. Permanently.

Retake all F/D/C science grades.
