I thought that the magnetic fields lines go from NORTH ==> SOUTH.

Why is it different here?

Magnetic field lines point to the north as far as I know (in an analogous magnet).

Those lines are pointing north also. The arrow through the center of the bar magnet is pointing from South to North.

So I think the two pics you posted look the same (except one is a solenoid and one a permanent magnet).

@Cawolf

Oh wow ok this is much more confusing than I expected it to be.

So it appears in the solid part of the magnet, the magnetic field points one direction but even just .000000000000000000001mm above the solid magnet, it points in the opposite direction?

I think I am confused as to how you are confused.

The magnet has a field line pointing to it's north pole that curls back around towards the south pole (zero net flux per maxwell).

This is the same as observed in the solenoid magnetic field.
