Immediately after a lumpectomy is mammography necessary to make sure the microcalcifications have been removed? Is there an xray needed of the tissue removed to make sure the microcalcifications are in there?

NCCN states:

Specimen mammos SHOULD be done.

Post-op Mammos should be considered if mass/microcalcs aren't clearly inside the specimen mammo.

I usually get one if there is a question about margin status or specimen mammo not done.
