No right or wrong answers, just share your opinion/experience. Regarding cost, necessity, etc is it worth it? If you have gone either route, what do you think of it?

Riley G, out of curiosity, what school did your get your masters? Cos that is an amazing outcome to owe that little after the program. Lucky you
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH
I am definitely moving more and more towards going straight for the doctorate. Thats why i really appreciate you guys' real life experiences.
I would advise against applying to a PhD right out of undergrad. I just did exactly that (against the advice of several profs) and was rejected from 8/8 schools. I had almost four years of research experience in two different labs, and I conducted an independent research project with a grant I received. I got several interviews, and I was the number one person on the wait list at two of them. The reason I was passed over? The students chosen over me had either worked in a research lab after graduation or completed a Master's degree. I should add that I had a 1400 GRE and 3.78 GPA. I heard from so many people that I should wait a year and gain more experience before applying, but I was set on going straight to a PhD program. This phenomenon is not exclusive to me; several of the graduate students at my school waited a year before applying, and many of them came from top schools with excellent credentials. There are of course many people who do get accepted right out of undergrad, but I think these cases are becoming more rare. Best of luck!
*This is all experience relevant to PhD programs; PsyD may be different
I hope you don't take offense to this in anyway, but is what you typed in the bold print something you were told by programs or something you have concluded on your own? Honestly, from my experience as well as thos of my friends, profs, and peers, there is a great deal of variance, and I'm just wondering how you have concluded that your nonadmission is soley due to things you mentioned above.
Could you also PM it to me ? Thanks!PM'ed
