Can someone please explain the method of the labeling of the carbons in the problem if anyone remembers?:
I do not know how to trace carbons the the decarboxylation rxn. Question is on the AAMC sample test #38. Thanks!!!

Carbon-14 labeled mevalonic acid (Compound 2) produced from 14C-labeled acetylCoA (reactions 1–3) is converted in vivo into isopentenyl pyrophosphate (Compound 3).
