For the MCAT if a question occurs asking about how many NADH produced during krebs cycle would the answer be 6 or 8NADH, since two of them occur when both pyruvate acid turns into Ach CoA. Would that be considered part of krebs cycle? Or just count the 3(x2) when citric acid cycles into oxoacetic acid?
Anyone know
Thanks

I checked my study books, and both Kaplan and EK separate the two. So if you were asked for Krebs cycle NADH production per acetyl-CoA molecule, the answer would be 3. However, I think you would be more likely to be asked something like, " how many NADH does the Krebs cycle produce per molecule of pyruvate?" The answer to this would be 4, not 3, because you would have to convert pyruvate to acetyl-CoA first.
