Hello,
I am posting for a family member who graduated medical school and is currently doing research in cardiac imaging at a well renowned hospital. Currently needing to move to Chicago and looking for a position until residency. Interested in internal medicine and a cardiology fellowship in the future. Strong clinical and research experience apart from USLME scores. Wants to increase publications on CV.

Unfortunately was refereed by a friend to the current research position/PI. Question is: How do we search for research opportunities in Chicago?? It seems like the simplest question but it's so odd how we're not sure how to go about the job search process! Through universities, through hospitals, through cardiovascular research institutes and just send out mass emails? Look up faculty directories for doctors/mentors and email them directly?

Current mentor will not be able to help or refer to other mentors, plus not finding anything with contacts/friends. Our question sounds naive but there are reasons for lack of knowledge, and would just appreciate some help.

We would really appreciate advice on how to search! Also, any recommendation for particular mentors/doctors that are known for cardiovascular research (interventional, imaging, anything).

Thank you!

Look at various departments in the area and see what type of work they are doing. If something looks interesting/worthwhile then I would contact both the PI and the lab manager. If they don't have a position, ask them if they have any colleagues who are looking for someone. Probably a small community.
