I just received this email from the University of Iowa... So AMCAS immediately tells schools that you will be applying, even before they actually send out the verified application? I guess that's good, but I don't really get it.

Thoughts/comments?

Here's the email:
"Dear Applicant:

We have received notification from AMCAS that you have designated your
application be sent to the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A.
Carver College of Medicine. Applications to the Carver College of
Medicine are screened before a Secondary Application is sent. Therefore, as
soon as we receive your verified application from AMCAS, we can review
it and determine whether or not to invite you to complete the secondary
application.

A verified application means that all of your transcripts have been
received by AMCAS and they have compared your academic record on your
AMCAS application to your official transcripts. It is in your best
interested to stay on top of the submission of your transcripts so that we can
receive your application from AMCAS in a timely manner.

Sincerely,

Judith D. Lehman

Some schools will ask from preliminary data instead of only verified data which means they get your contact info even if you haven't been verified yet.
