I just had a Kaplan immuno question about a patient's response to a vaccine. The question mentioned that she "updated" her vaccines for college. Well, I immediately ruled out all live attenuated vaccines because, according to FA, they don't need boosters. Well, there really wasn't a suitable answer left. Turns out the answer was measles. An 18 year old (college-aged) wouldn't begin to need to have this updated. Ugh...sometimes Kaplan frustrates me to no end.

There's been outbreaks on college campuses of measles in the past.

I'll give you the breakdown. Back in the day, only one dose of MMR was given. These days it's been found that it doesn't produce lasting immunity (for example in Colorado 98% of the college students were vaccinated but some still got measles). As of about 1989 a second dose was given at age 4-5 when the first dose was around 1. This was in response to outbreaks.

The more you know... Hope you had your second dose at age 5.
