anyways...i was wondering if any of you had any good MNEMONICS for ANY MCAT stuff.. I got hte enzymes and hormones down...just wondering if theres anything for the brain, etc....or for physics, chem, and orgo..

thanks all!

You can use this for electronegativity: FONClBrISCH (in decreasing value).

and for god's sake, it's 'O-chem' not orgo!

My favorite one from high school:

King Phillip Came Over For Great Sex.

(Kingdom, Phylum, Order, etc.)

Here's the only one that helped me:

An Ox and a Red Cat

Oxidation - at the anode

Reduction - at the cathode

Good luck. :)

Which reminds me of Leo goes Ger - "lose electrons: oxidation, Gain electrons: reduction"

I have a couple that may be of some help

"ROY GEE BIV" Red, Orange, Violet, Green, Blue Indigo, Violet (Visible Light Spectra) and I remember that at Violet is at 400nm of wavelength b/c of a V-4 engine and red is at 700nm.

"Wack'em and they wiggle" this is for the Simple Harmonic Motion for physics. In other words angular frequency for a spring is w= k/m*1/2 and for a pendulum w=g/l*1/2

There is also a web site that has a whole list of helpful harmonics for the mcat but you will have to do some reserch on it. I believe that I typed in "harmonics for the MCAT" and it came up. Good Luck
Cheers

I never got those two. What the hell is "Ger" anyway?

I like oil rig -- oxidation is losing reduction is gaining

and oarc -- oxidation anode, reduction cathode.

Other bio ones:

FLAT PIG for the ant. pituitary hormones and
SEVEN UP for male reproductive but I'm too fried to type them out.

mj

'oil rig' was a big one for me!

also, Cut The PY and PUR As Gold are ones that i still use today to keep things straight! :D

For the colors of the spectrum:

Richard Of Yorkshire Gave Battle In Vain (ROYGBIV).

"GER"? Lion's don't "ger"! Lions ROAR, which also has lots of r's and o's and I would never keep it straight. I'll stick to the oil rig

lol

what is SEVEN UP?

Male reproductive pathway...

hydrophobic aminos...GAVIL..like the thing judges use

solubility laws...there are none, memorize!

parallel plate capacitor...V=ED...eddie vedder's formula

which bands shorten during a muscle contraction..H and I...hellooooo muscle contraction! wave hi to the muscle contraction.

nerves...SAME...sensory, afferent...motor, efferent

anterior pituitary hormones...the toilet paper flag...TPFLAG

adrenals...the deeper you go the sweeter it gets...salt, sugar, sex = aldosterone (cortex), cortisol, DHEA (androgen)

Thank you!
:D

Do you really need to memorize formulas for the MCAT? Was there any questions that you could not answer with out having a specific formula memorized?

Yes, but only the "easier" basic formulas, such as Henderson-Hasselbach, linear acceleration formulas ...Any long or difficult formulas are usually supplied.

Molar Mass (of a gas) = "Dirty Pee" dRT/P
i.e. density x Gas Constant x Temp / pressure

and one from the Kaplan Comp Review:

q = MCAT (heat = (mass)(sp. heat)(change in temp))

Here is one for the spinal Column:
Cyanide Tastes Like Sweet Candy

Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar,Sacrum, Coccyx

Just ended up downloading an app on iPhone: mcat mnemonics (its pretty much everything and more that we have talked about here…)
