I am too, and would love to go but am wary about the OOS tuition!!
If there's no possibility to become instate after a year, I may not be able to afford it. Though the school looks totally awesome!!! to everyone!
Is this true? That once an OOS always an OOS? Even if you pay income tax/etc b/c your spouse move to work there?
I'm applying to MSUCOM as well. I have to tell you all, though, I live in Michigan, and I've visited friends at MSU for undergrad, and it is really boring there. Now, I know that in medical school you don't have time to go out or party or whatever, but seriously, it's the most boring place. Ever. EVER. Not to mention, I really would like to get out of Michigan for a while. 22 years in this boring state is enough already. That being said, if I am accepted there, I will seriously consider it, as I've heard it is a really great school. Good luck to everyone!

OMG and you know whats ******ed if something does happen to the form in the mail, and if the evaluator has to resend it the applicant again has to fill out the first page info and the waiver form. So that means another trip to were ever the person lives, SUCH A WASTE OF GAS AND TIME.
desi- are you aware of the website below?Yesterday I was at MSUCOM, man did the admissions lady give me a disdained look when I asked her to check the status of all my application materials. Seriously lady sorry your overwhelmed but please do you know what condition we as students are in, worrying every waking moment of our life about where we shall end up and IF we will be physicians.
OMG I GOT AN ACCEPTANCE EMAIL THIS MORNING!!!! I'll see the rest of you next June!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are officially inviting, good luck to the rest of you!!!

If not maybe it will save you future scorn in the admissions office.
Maybe I'm just a fan of dirty bars but I love Ricks (and E. Lansing in general). If we get in I'll buy us all a round.
I actually had an hour long meeting with an admission's person at MSU-COM and she was super nice. She explained the entire process to me, including why they did away with interviewing people. She said that they learned that it was really easy for people to fake their way through an interview and come across however they wanted to come across as. They changed and updated their LOR forms to be more inclusive and in depth because they feel that they can more accurately learn about a person from good LOR than a short interview. Another reason stated was that in an interview with that is 3-on-1, all three people could come out with a different impression of the person, and that impression could be different than the LORs.
As for admissions, they have an algorithm that they follow. If you meet the minimum MCAT and GPA you get a secondary application. Once the whole application is complete, they put all of your stuff into the algorithm and the top 25% EACH WEEK go to comittee. They also stated that as a reason why to apply early, because you might not be in a top 20% score until October or November b/c traditionally the 4.0's and upper 30 MCAT scores come in first.
The algorithm contains 4 sections that are weighted in different ways. She did say that they are about equal, but there are some variations. The four areas are GPA, MCAT, Volunteer hours, and---okay, completely blanking on the 4th. Then once in comittee, LOR and Personal Statements are investigated and end up being how they pick the ones to admit each week.
I don't know/remember how many are picked each week, but I think she implied that everyone or no one could be picked. Also, as long as you are in the top 25%, you will go to committee each week, unless you a chosen to go into a "pre-hold" group, which means that you will not be competing anymore with people who have really high GPA or MCAT and will be compared to people with about the same GPA and MCAT scores as you.
She did tell me that they have the most agressive admissions schedule in the country, and have a goal of knowing who will be attending by Jan of 2008 (or at least about 85% b/c they know that some will decline or change for a first choice school between Jan and June).
I hope this all helps. And for the being nice to the people in the office...it's really not that hard b/c they are super nice and willing to work with people to
help as much as possible.

??? I am confused. Did you interview at MSUCOM for entering class of 08? I didn't even know they started handing out interviews. Regardless, congratulations!!!! That's amazing!
Ohhh I am so down for some shots in dirty Rick's!! Hahaha, I plan on celebrating a bit tonight! I'm sure u guys' emails are coming soon! I didnt think I had a chance so goes to show you, you just never know!
They only interview a couple of people and accept most without one.
CONGRATS You should start the official class thread! Are you going to even go on any other interviews now that you know you're in?
HI Everyone,
Does MSU have a preference for MI applicants and accept more MI applicants? Or do they accept a good number of non-MI applicants as well?
If you are not a Michigan resident, you are at a great disadvantage.
Congrats speeter, your stats are good I think you have a real good shot to get in. I hope once my MCAT score gets to them (either Wednesday or Thursday) I get reviewed immediately. I just want to KNOW dammit.
On other note, Is it true having a high VR score opens up more doors for you then a high PS or BS score?
Walking out of the mcat I expected about a 24. I think you will get a higher score than you think. 11 11 11 is definitely not out of the question.
When I got out of the MCAT, I had no idea at all what I got. I figured anywhere from 29-36. I had been getting 35+ on my practices, but I was wiped out by the end of the test (took the 8-hour version in '05), and my head wasn't quite in it when the biological sciences came up.
I ended up with a 33, so I guess I was close on my guess, but that might just have been because I had taken a bunch of practice tests.
