Hi--

I'm currently wanting more information on what benefits I would be eligible for with the National Guard while pursuing a degree in Psychiatry.

Will I be able to collect STRAP for six years and Special Pay for three?
What is the maximum/minimum about of service I will owe for this?

Also, can I combine these two with HPLRP?

psychiatry is not a degree, it's a residency specialty after medical school....do you mean psychology?

I'm not a psychologist, so you'd need to contact a recruiter for specifics. You can reach one by calling 800-Go-Guard and asking for your state's AMEDD Officer recruiter.

If you take STRAP for 6 years, you would owe the military 12 years of drilling service after you finished your psychology program. You can take Special Pay for 3 years as well and HPLRP for 3 years too, but you couldn't take that while you were paying back STRAP and you can't take Special Pay at the same time as HPLRP so fi you wanted to do both, it would be six years in addition to your 12 years payback for STRAP for a total of 18 years.
