Hi all,

I am currently finishing up my 2nd year, getting ready to write Step 1.

I am interested in a hospital where a friend of mine is currently a resident. I was originally planning to do an observership there before I start my 3rd year and also clinical rotations. I plan on doing at least one elective rotation there in my 4th year as well. I was wondering if I should do the observership now, which would be before my clinical rotation, or if it would be better to do an observership there after I've completed my rotations.

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated, thanks!

I did an observership at the beginning of my 2nd year in general surg at a different hospital and made some great connections as well as gained a lot of clinical knowledge. I was thinking solely in terms of increases chances for residency. I thought by spending more time at the hospital it would increase my chances?

I will definitely do a clerkship there as well, just unsure about how to plan this observership in the best way possible.

Thanks for the response!

I would definitely do both!

Do clerkship x2
Observership u do get to make contacts but that is a hit or miss. The residency class may know you but attendings are unable to comment on clinical acumen If you have a month to spare and u really want to go there do a clinical clerkship.
Observership is inferior to clerkship. If u are a student then it makes no sense to do observership
