I don't get what the P in the equation is. Is it gauge pressure? Absolute pressure? I just need overall help with the equation.

Thanks

It depends on where you apply the Bernoulli's equation. P1 and P2 give the pressures at any two points along a streamline with flow.

For example ; if you have a fluid at rest in a container open to the atmosphere and you take point 1 at the top (where P1= atmospheric pressure) and you take P2 at some arbitrary point in the container. Then the gauge pressure here would be "P2-P1" in the Bernoulli's equation.
