Hello,

I am an asian male from CA with the above stats. I want to apply to around 30 or so schools and am not sure what schools may be completely out of my range and a waste of time or what I am missing from this list. Any help would be amazing! I also have an upward trend of 4.0 in two quarters of post-bacc work, as well as strong LOR, PS, and extracurriculars. My extracurriculars I believe are also unique as well as fulfills the clinical and non clinical hospital volunteering aspects. I have researched a lot on these forums and MDApplicants and have thus created this list. Thanks for your time!

My school list so far is:
Quinnipiac-Frank Netter SOM
Georgetown
George Washington
Chicago-Pritzker
Northwestern-Feinberg
Loyola-Stritch
Rush
Illinois
Chicago Med-Franklin
Tulane
Boston
Tufts
Central Michigan University
Western Michigan
Wayne State
Oakland University William Beaumont Medical School
St Louis
Missouri Kansas City
Wake Forest
Creighton
New York MC
SUNY Downstate
Albany
Hofstra University North Shore–LIJ SOM
Case Western
Cleveland Clinic Lerner
Cincinnati
Toledo
Jefferson
Temple
Drexel
Commonwealth
Penn State
Virginia Tech Carilion
Eastern Virginia
Virginia Commonwealth
Vermont
MC Wisconsin
I also plan to apply to most of the California schools, as an extreme reach!

Your list seems good. Your upward trend will be looked upon favorably, and your SMP will help a lot presuming that you do extremely well. Unfortunately, your GPA is still extremely low, and may get your screened out or not considered at some schools

I definitely understand my GPA is still extremely low! Would you know which of those schools may immediately screen me out. If not the info was already great help!

Do you have the MSAR? It's a great way to look at school's average and lower quartile stats if you're concerned!

1. I would really try to get that sGPA >3.o before applying (1 more science course). Regardless of your SMP performance, a bunch of schools will screen out your application before even looking at it.

2. Unless you have amazing ECs or a crazy life story and can pull off a 3.9+ SMP you'd just be wasting your money with the underlined schools (including UCSF and UCLA). Your MCAT and GPA are well below their averages and none of them are particularly SMP friendly.

3. Add more realistic schools: Louisville, USF, UCF, SUNYs, etc...

4. Apply to a few DO schools as back up

As of right now, you will be rejected from every medical school. IF you ace the SMP, then aim for low tier MD schools and any DO program. It will be much faster to simply flush your money down the toilet than to apply to the UCs, even with a 4.0 from the SMPs.

For next year, MSAR Online will be your friend.

Hello,

Thanks for your advice! What else would be a realistic school aside from Louisville, USF, UCF, SUNYs. Are the schools on my list not as realistic aside from the ones you underlined. I am aiming to cut down my list by about 5-10 schools. Also @Goro I understand that it would be a waste of money for the UCs; however, what about UCR. I am from Riverside and have worked/served the underserved community, would I get any looks?

Thanks!

Here is an updated list! All the California schools except UCR, I know I have almost no chance, but maybe there is a miracle. Ideally I can cut down a few more schools!

Any advice to what I should look at when cutting then. Location?

How about doing the SMP first? Applying before you finish it would be wasting your money.
