Hi, I need to go into psychology for my career. I love it. However, I'm a working professional in IT. I've been in this field for about 10 years now. I have a BA and a master's degree in unrelated disciplines. This is not my passion but I'm pretty good at it. I have to go into psychology now...but I don't have any background.
Ok, well I did take an Advanced Placement psychology course in high school and intro to psych in college (A's in both courses). Psychology just comes naturally to me. I've also recently had 4 solid years of intensive therapy and a men's group weekly and have really explored myself and my motivations. I feel confident this is the direction for me.
But how to get started? I'm thinking of enrolling in a master's program at the University at Buffalo to get credit, recommendations, and show aptitude...but am not sure this is the right path. Eventually I do want to get a PhD or PsyD (I'm more interested in practice over research but I also know PsyD is more expensive).
So my question for you guys is what you think about this idea of first enrolling in a master's program to gain valuable knowledge and lay the groundwork? Is it worth the investment given what I've said above?
