The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.
Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)."
"The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains.
The slogan "Forward!" reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.
The Obama campaign released its new campaign slogan Monday in a 7-minute video. The title card has simply the word "Forward" with the "O" having the familiar Obama logo from 2008. It will be played at rallies this weekend that mark the Obama re-election campaign's official beginning.
There have been at least two radical-left publications named "Vorwaerts" (the German word for "Forward"). One was the daily newspaper of the Social Democratic Party of Germany whose writers included Friedrich Engels and Leon Trotsky. It still publishes as the organ of Germany's SDP, though that party has changed considerably since World War II. Another was the 1844 biweekly reader of the Communist League. Karl Marx, Engels and Mikhail Bakunin are among the names associated with that publication.
East Germany named its Army soccer club ASK Vorwaerts Berlin (later FC Vorwaerts Frankfort).
Vladimir Lenin founded the publication "Vpered" (the Russian word for "forward") in 1905. Soviet propaganda film-maker Dziga Vertov made a documentary whose title is sometimes translated as "Forward, Soviet" (though also and more literally as "Stride, Soviet").
Conservative critics of the Obama administration have noted numerous ties to radicalism and socialists throughout Mr. Obama's history, from his first political campaign being launched from the living room of two former Weather Underground members, to appointing as green jobs czar Van Jones, a self-described communist.

Blade,

Do you think Ron Paul will make it onto the ballot?

Hey Blade

Well, I'm not Obama's biggest fan right now, but I'll take a socialist over a religious nut job who thinks it's sacrilege to have sex before marriage or be related to one of "the gays." I have a couple really conservative friends in my life right now and it's insanity (IMHO). Anyone who bases so many political decisions upon Genesis or Leviticus is out in my book. We need to welcome in the 21st century. Not the 2nd Century.

Now, I have no idea yet where Romney REALLY stands on abortion, gay rights, sex out of wedlock and the like, but I shiver at the thought. Considering he's the Republican poster boy who has beat out all the rest, I imagine I know where he stands.

Your response might be that Romney is middle of the road as middle of the road gets, especially compared to W, and that he couldn't do any worse of a job than Obama has in the WH with regard to my finances. But it takes two (branches of gov't) to Tango, so I don't place it all on my Dem President, or the Rep legislature during W's years. The point of my argument is: I'll take a socialist over a religious nut job any day.

Where do you stand on that lone point?

Just like in France you get to vote. So vote for a Socialist; the new campaign slogan makes it pretty clear Obama believes govt. is the answer and NOT the problem.

Romney is a practical politician. On social issues you won't get much change in either direction but on the economy you get less regulation, reasonable tax code and job growth. In addition, Romney won't balance the budget but he will make progress in that direction.

Well, at least you recognize that he is about as wishy washy on the topics as you can get. So, I'm sure you can understand that while I appreciate your posting of Mitt's support for Gay Rights in 1994, 18 years ago, Mitt's changed a bit. So, let's be honest, this is from his 2012 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN WEBSITE:

ScreenShot2012-04-30at84035PM.png

And so are these...tucked quietly away under a tab marked Values. After 30 other topics for discussion, he posts these. I will give the guy credit, has good writers and could spin anything any way he wants. And boy does he!

Lemme finish by saying, there is NO CHANCE of me voting for someone as closed minded and ignorant as the man behind these three postings. Certainly not my commander in chief. Not gonna happen.

D712

I knew you'd sort of go there with these posts, just see my post on his current values. He's a religious conservative. End of story.

Would never vote for the dude. Even if he'd let me keep 10% extra every year in my pocket. I'm happy to pay a price to keep the US from becoming MORE conservative. Let women walk around topless on Snickers commercials, let homosexuals marry one another in Kentucky and let women decide if they'd like an abortion.

Anyone who would stop medical advancement for diseases like Parkinson's, when the research and need for Stem Cell investigation is there, because of some half-assed backwards religious belief, will NEVER get my vote.

Agree to disagree, Blade.

D712

p.s. just caught the sponsor of the add you posted, NEWT!!!!! Haaaaaaa. Trying to get the Conservative vote, CLASSIC.

The point being Romney is actually a moderate. Despite the rhetoric it is clear Mitt Romney's positions are America's positions- slightly right of center.

Behind the campaign Rhetoric lies the truth:

Obama= Bigger govt, redistribution of wealth, higher taxes, slower growth, liberal policies

Romney= Moderate govt, lower taxes, faster growth, Moderate policies

You won't? Even a LITTLE change (like banning stem cell research) is a BIG change. Ask Michael J Fox. Ask a woman who would like to maintain her right to an abortion. Ask a gay couple in Texas who cannot get health coverage for a partner who is dying.

You complain about the watering down of gun rights over 200 years. I complain about the Conservative bullshlaka being bounced around the US over the last 200 years.

It's ENOUGH.

D712

Not in my house. Not in my mind. I could care less how America votes. I'm worried about me. Practically speaking, I have no idea who will win, nor do you. That's to be seen.

Behind the campaign Rhetoric lies the truth:

Obama= Bigger govt, redistribution of wealth, higher taxes, slower growth, liberal policies

Romney= Moderate govt, lower taxes, faster growth, Moderate policies

You talk about speed of growth, again, less govt vs larger. Obama inherited problems. W inherited problems. Neither of us know how this will play out. We're not Nostradamus. Though I do think he was against abortion rights. I think he was pro-hysterectomy for depressed women actually. ; )

You mention much of money (actually, a LOT about money, and fiscal responsibility of the G, and the like. I know you're educated herein. BUT at what price will you sell your American soul?) What I mean is, where do YOU Dr. Blade stand on issues of:

Abortion
Gay Rights
Stem Cell Research

Do you feel comfy answering such a question, if not, I totally respect that. If you are liberal in these regards, then, that would be selling America's soul to you, by voting Romney, no? If you are conservative, then that's more inline with following your true beliefs.

What say u?

Look at this link? Anyone voting Obama is selling this country down the river. Think of the unborn children who will have to pay for all this debt. There is no easy road out of fiscal mess but ask yourself which Presidential candidate knows how to run a company and make the tough decisions.

Do you even use drugs for anesthesia BLADE? Or do you use graphs for induction?

PS Apparently Obama's cat was overheard saying, "Mao!!!"

That's a lot of bread. Take a small little chunk out of the corner of that pile of Benjamins. That's Obama's part. The rest is America being America since 1776. Dems and Reps and Whigs and Independents alike.

It's like saying 9/11 was W's fault. Nothing could be further from the truth. That was planned and brewing since W's tenure as GM of the Texas Rangers. It's incredulous logic.
He stepped into it. Just like Obama has.

As for turning the ship around, it's all about money for you, I get it. Let's say it's 95% about money for the rest of us. So, where do you stand on the 3 topics, would you care to comment on that, Blade?

D712

Yep, all the liberal Doctors I know, including the Gay one's living with their partners, wake up every morning with their fishing polls and head to the pond. You're right. That's an accurate depiction.

What else ya got? :D

Do you even know how to READ a graph? Explain how this country can pay for its $15 Trillion dollar debt and yet, give even more to the poor and the elderly? How do we sustain the system that Obama wants to give to every American?

FORWARD is a Socialistic term that has been used by Socialist parties throughout history; yet, you think MSNBC and Obama are using the slogan by chance? Fat chance.

I, for one, fully expect someone by the end of this thread to be persuaded that the ideas they entered it with were incorrect, and that they should embrace the opposite viewpoint. Happens all the time in political arguments on the internet.

I understand your point. But, do you think the Obama team chose "Forward" by chance?
They are making their position perfectly clear. Forward with CHANGE.

This country is in a sad state of affairs. We are indeed on a path to FRANCE like status.
An Obama victory should secure our road to fiscal ruin.

Completely missed my point. You should aim for quality over quantity.

And forward is just a word.

You really think MSNBC, a corporate news organization, has any interest in socialism? They have liberal anchors, but the bosses are still as capitalist as they come. They just decided they could get more viewers with liberals than with moderates --> more advertising money (and Fox had already cornered the conservative market).

Stop being so paranoid and put real thought into your arguments. You seem to just be howling into the wind here.

Lemme see if I can do this properly... (i.e. a la Blade!)

Johnny,

Blade is a respected poster, who is smart and experienced, but I have to agree with you: Blade is worried that he isn't going to be as rich as he thought......hence the anti-forward/socialism/etc., posts.....i'm not going to make 500K anymore...blah blah blah....

Blade, I have heard from multiple posters on this forum that Anes.MDs make more in Canada than in the U.S..... what do you think of this? Honestly, I think you are just paranoid. The U.S. is not Socialist--it never will be. Taxes go up and down, but stop worrying. Anes and medicine will still be awesome professions.

I am worried America is heading towards fiscal ruin. Chaos. $15 trillion in debt.
I'm worried for my children's future.

On a personal level I'm NOT worried about my income as much as a weakening dollar and a collapsing economy.

great job wiki-ing obamas new slogan and coming up with some random stuff to post that doesnt make any sense .. i personally have never known "forward" to be associated with socialism, as im sure mostly no one else has, and is just the republican thing of the day to rebut obamas campaign..

clearly "forward" comes from the idea that the alternative (the republicans) are going "backward" ie abortion, exacerbating wealth disparities, wars, ugh its not 1920 anymore... so this is where "forward" comes from, new younger generation, younger more open minds continuing to change things, yes take guns away, yes stop wars, yes give more rights and privliges to those who dont have them..

sorry you have to make a little less (of a raise) doing something that you should love doing inherently - people would kill for our job - your just another older crumugon type who will never get it and well all be happy when your gone .. you talk about france as if france and europe is bad... how much time have you actually spent there? someones been drinking the USA kool aid

And what about

Stem Cell Research
Pro-Life/Pro-Choice
Gay Rights?

In the end it will be the economy and I hope the debt which makes the Independent voter go for Romney. Social policies are not what this election will be about.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Abortion is such a tough issue. I think anyone who states they know it all on it is being ignorant. The ability to balance personal choice against the right to life of a distinct someone else is the difficulty. Id love to allow both, but with abortion that is mutually exclusive. So we must chose one good right over another good right. Its like a tough medical decision, weighing pros and cons. If you personally do not think a fetus has any rights, then you call it a fetus, and are decidedly pro abortion. If you feel a fetus has no rights, then the important question you need to answer for yourselves, is when do they get rights? Is it at birth? If so what is so magical scientifically about birth? How about we allow parents thirty days after a birth to decide if the baby lives or dies?

If you think a fetus has some rights, but the womans right to chose is more important than the unborns right to life, then in my opinion you become more flexible on abortion rights in my experience. But how does one weigh one persons right to a freedom against anothers right to live? Again really hard. I'm on the side of trying to make it rare, and make sure people understand the difficulties of chosing between two bad alternatives. I think birth control is the way to go, but thats also a hard one to enforce.

I'm worried for my children's future.

I am too, Blade. We just have different ways of looking at it.

Anyway, these are all excellent points RabbMD, and I really hope Blade will address this topic and the other two as well. So at least I know where he stands on issues aside from the wallet.

I never claimed to know it all about abortion, other than to say I won't be voting for anyone who believes a 16 cell Morula has rights equal to a grown woman (because of religious beliefs) thus limiting (to nil) Mom's rights and the right to continued scientific exploration to abolish diseases in people that already have differentiated Neurons.

Like I've always said, right with limits. Limiting things at conception, scientifically, seems extreme. Religiously extreme.

No thanks.

Might I point out that A GREAT danger of electing a Republican President today (for all you fiscally conservative/socially liberal peeps) is that we are going to say goodbye to a few Supreme Court members in the coming years, (or not if Obama gets re-elected and they take their chances in staying on for their replacement's benefit). So, since the Supreme Court ultimately decides these critical issues, and their legality, I don't want another Righty on the Court, appointed by Romney fercrissakes. This is one of the most overlooked issues a voter can miss. Confirmation hearings? Hahahah. Yeah, whatever. Even the most middle of the road conservative will vote right when they get on that bench...

No thanks.

D712

Abortion is such a tough issue.

It is.

I certainly understand why many people are vehemently opposed to it, though I personally disagree.

What I don't understand is why the Republican party repeatedly chooses to lose elections on this one issue, instead of choosing to win elections on all the other conservative-ish issues.
