I'm not looking for a new job, but I was interested to see who was hiring around here. I found one inpatient job that specifically wanted a psychiatrist with at least 2 years of experience. How common is this? Do you think you were ready to work right out of residency? My first thought was this was in a sought after metropolitan area, but the job is in a town of about 150,000 an hour away from the big city.

Far too vague in details and location to give specifics to your inquiry. I could generalize but it wouldn't be helpful. I can offer this piece, the response you're getting is usually due to an over-saturation in a small vicinity to where you are looking and may need to broaden your horizons.

People will change jobs early and tend to stick it out later.
You aren't gonna be board certified.
It takes a couple of years to get comfy in your 'real doctor' skin.

There's a couple of reasons why this occurs. If your only question is how common, I don't know but it's not rare.
