Patient presenting for colonoscopy and has an NG tube for an ileus.

How many would sedate this patient with propofol with the ng tube on suction or place an ET tube?

Agree anyone with an Ileus is high risk for aspiration. Sure you can get away with mac. But you can ever be faulted for intubation to protect the airway.

I would offer no sedation or GETA.

There's a reason the GI doc isn't doing this him/herself with midaz+fentanyl.

I read a lawsuit from several years back. Anesthesiologist and CRNA were taking care of a morbidly obese woman with ileus for upper and lower endoscopy. They chose MAC and the rest is ...well ...... paying for the lawyers beach house.
