I'm interested in going to LSU-New Orleans and plan on applying early decision this June. I'm a Louisiana resident. I'm somewhat non-trad, I took a few years off and worked between my sophomore and junior year in college, and will be graduating this year. All pre reqs have been completed recently.

My concern is if I need to get some more volunteering hours in, or if my work experience will be sufficient. Also, what kind of MCAT would I need to be competitive to LSU-NO (early decision).

White male
In state applicant
Large state school, psych major chem minor (senior year)
cGPA 3.9, sGPA 4.0, GPA in my major/minor 4.0
MCAT - will take in April (psych major so I'll benefit from the psych/soc section)

Research - involved in some cardiac arrest research, very minimal role, considering leaving it out of my application because my role wasn't very significant.

Vocational school-
Police Officer (POST certified), class rank 1 of 32
Paramedic, was somewhere in the top 1/3rd of the class, not too sure.

Work experience-
-Police Officer, full time, coming up on 2 years now.
-Paramedic, NREMT certified for 4 years, worked full time for 3 and have been part time since.
-SWAT paramedic, 1.5 years
-Critical care paramedic, 2 years
-Mental health counselor in an inpatient psych hospital, part time 4 months
-Psych tutor (2 semesters)
-Cardiac monitoring center tech (telemetry tech), 8 months part time

In total I have about 8000 hours as paramedic and maybe 3000 hours as a cop including the academy.

Volunteering-
-Paramedic for a ski resort, maybe 150 - 200 hours.
-TA, 4 semesters

Shadowing-
-approx 100 hours over a few years in various specialties.

I'll apply to other schools as well, but I'm shooting for LSU-New Orleans. Any way I can improve my app in the next 6 months? How's it look so far for LSU-NO? What MCAT will I need to be competitive for early decision?

I'd say you're a lock! Aim for at least high 20s, 30+ would be better. Good luck!

Yep. You should have a good shot with a 28+ score. Obviously 32+ would be best.
