hello ladies and gents.

this may sound like a stupid question to some.

im looking for some advice regarding a patient that was referred to my Podiatric MSK clinic. The patient advised me that after a heart bypass operation november 2014 she has developed a numbness/tingle in the 2&3 toes on both feet. After the operation the surgeon advised her that he had severed one of the nerves in her chest (patient cant remember which one) The patient has been unable to get any information from her Specialist or Doctor as to whether the issues with her toes are directly related to the cut nerve in her chest.

the patient suffers with type 2 diabetes (20 yr duration & well controlled) and Rheumatoid arthritis. No issues with circulation.

No history of this problem ever happening before.

could this be related to the heart surgery?
if so what nerve has been cut to in the chest that has affected the toes?

thanx

ross

None that I can think of. The GA during the surgery probably accelerated a length-dependent polyneuropathy from her DM or maybe B12 deficiency.
