I ran into a recruiter at APA this year who sort of wormed his way into my brain and after doing some research and talking to my wife about it I actually almost think I might want to start looking seriously into relocating to New Zealand. The country looks amazing and has some upsides to the US (e.g., more socially tolerant, less police-state-y atmosphere) but some downsides (more taxation, although allegedly you get more government services of some supposedly reputable quality, for example, year-round schooling for the kiddies that rates generally higher than US schools on a variety of domains). Also found some very interesting looking psychology jobs posted.

Is this just a crazy idea or what? I figure you only go on this roller coaster called life once, so, maybe..... anyways, I don't know what kind of advice I'm looking for..... or any advice at all.....

Because they are a non-USA 1st world country we know they must have socialist socialized medicine. Did the recruiter discuss how psychologists fit into that system?

No, but there is wage data available which seems to suggest clinical psychologists have average salaries comparable to their US counterparts, albeit with more of a tax bite, but perhaps with somewhat less terrible government services thrown your way. And again, I just love the idea of living in a more socially tolerant country with no surveillance drones buzzing overhead and security cameras metastasizing everywhere.... but that's just me.

I'm no fan of socialized medicine in the least, mind you, but it's not like the US is a paragon of free market healthcare either, even less so with Obamacare.

Have you ever been to NZ -- maybe, as a tourist??
