Pre-med student here. I was seeking opinions on the effect of obamacare on physician work schedules, which areas of specializations would be the most affected, physician salaries, etc?

Obamacare doesn't, yet, directly affect any of those things. Its a massive re-regulation of the insurance market coupled with a significant expansion of Medicaid. It could arguably alter payer balance, and it established a number of federal advisory committees that many worry could cut physician compensation, but those are all downstream effects that no one can predict yet. There's no direct regulation of physician employment, work hours, or work conditions in the bill, so nothing is changing in the short term.
 
Thanks for your response. I understand the short term scenario. As a freshman, and looking out 10 years, I am concerned about the effects of regulatory constraints described in this article, and whether the medical profession would remain attractive and independent, or bogged down by red-tapism. Time will tell i guess.
