Unless i'm crazy there are 51 PRS programs? cuz there are usually 52 but it looks like Dartmouth isn't taking a 3+3 this yr. I hear it's a fun interview trail so looking forward to meeting everyone

I'm an IMG so I need to cover all my bases. I don't mind going through GS either.

It seems like we were missing 1 program and 1 extra-step:
1. Lehigh: To apply for the combined preliminary/plastic program, please check that box under general surgery for our hospital. The match will technically be for a designated preliminary position in general surgery. Applicants selected to interview for that position are interviewed by the plastic surgery and faculty, who prepare the rank list. There are no other preliminary positions in our program.

The post-match offer letter for that position will include training dates for both general surgery and plastic surgery. Our intention is that the person who matches for designated preliminary will be with us for 6 years (3 general surgery and 3 plastic surgery).

2. Columbia: It has a categorical combined GS/PRS spot (PRS training at Cornell). Same story, you need to apply through GS.
 
Below is my list of programs. There are 52 -Dartmouth this yr =51.

I applied to 46(i count NYP/Cornell as 1prgm even though there are 2apps) PRS and left out 5. 12 Gens surg apps all to programs w/ independent PRS. My wallet is not happy :(

Penn State/Lehigh-- has a pre-lim plastic surgery thing with guaranteed transition to their plastic surgery program after 3 years.
 
After looking up last year's thread by CMar830 (here), I thought it would be good to put together another thread for this year's interview invites and rejections. It also seems like a lot of students were able to swap interview dates with other students on that thread. To keep it simple, let's follow last year's format for posting:

Now, all we can do is hurry and wait!

Anyone know if any programs have began offering interviews yet?

The waiting game for plastics is quite nerve wrecking - moreso than other fields, I guess.

After talking to a few different students at various programs it has been pretty quiet so far. This thread seems to be getting plenty of hits but not many people are commenting on interview dates, so I'm assuming it's quiet across the board. I highly doubt all the programs are now waiting for the MSPE, but who knows? Hopefully the next ten days will bring some action!

Yes. ~13 applicants / date. Applicants not invited will receive email notifications during the week of Nov. 8th.

No, they did not offer a second date. A get-together will be held the night before the interview. The interview is scheduled from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Friday Dec. 3.

I have some questions about interview offers that I hope someone can shed some light on. Does anyone know if the interviews for plastics are offered in waves, the same way that other specialties offer them, or are the invites a one shot deal? Also, do schools have a tendency to offer interviews to regional applicants or is that not even a factor. I am perplexed by the fact that I haven't gotten one offer yet. My advisor seemed to think that I would get many interveiw offers since I am #1 in my class at a top ten medical school and have 270 step 1 scores. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
I still think it is a bit too early to worry, it could be that your stats and application make certain schools feel that you would be out of reach. I am certain that as the "top tier programs" send out invites you will be quite desirable. More to your second question, I am unaware if there is any regional preference. During one of my rotations a resident informed me that the interview process was so random that being overlooked by several programs was in no way a reflection of your application. Now if 30 invites go out and no one is interested, then maybe your application has some flaws. Best of luck, although it appears you will not need it.

I just called MCV earlier today and changed my interview to Dec 18 and she said there were still spots for that date. You may want to just give them a call.

Texas A&M is offering only 12-13 interviews total (likely only one position available). As people reject their interview they plan on going down a list of offers (they only have one date that already overlaps with 3-4 program).

This forum is getting a crazy amount of hits..

Does anyone know of any decent plastics websites similar to "Orthogate?" I know there was a plasticseducation.com, but that site no longer exists. Seems like this forum is the only resource available to all of us anxiously waiting PRS applicants. :)

I feel you. I have a pretty decent app, although not first in my class, and have yet to hear a thing. Does anyone know if programs give out rolling interviews or if it is in waves?
