Official 2013-2014 Rheumatology fellowship application cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
waiting for UAB, UMD, and Wake forest to download.

I would think they would download by now, its been two weeks.

I still have not heard anything from most of the places I applied to... I would think that last week of july - would have been busy... may be I am hoping next week will be busy!

I just got a Hopkins invite, 11 days after initial offerings.

Hi
I would appreciate if anyone can answer my question.
I applied on 7/25 and I haven't received any response yet.
I have a very good LOR from one of the famous rehumatologist in the country, but no publication.
I am an IMG, I was wondering if I have any chance for this year.
I really appreciate your comment.

There is always a chance! Apply broadly... 50 programs ++, narrow down programs that have accepted IMG residents in the past, contact them directly...and just hope for the best.

I am an AMG and have only applied to like 25 programs... I applied July 15...and I have not heard anything from 95% of the programs that I applied to. I think most programs other than one's that have sent out invites, are likely to send invites mid-august. That is probably a good thing for you, because they are still reviewing applications .. and you just applied 6 days ago so that means they are still giving those who applied late...or still have yet to apply.... so just keep waiting... it will all work out for the best!

We are all in the same boat :)

How do we send the PTAL letter to CA programs?
I'm still waiting for LOR's, is it too late to apply?
Dont have any research, just working since last 3 years as hospitalist?

What are the chances of getting interview and fellowship?

One of my friend has almost the same profile as yours. She got matched last year :):)

You just need PTAL for residency. For fellowship you need to apply for a california license to practice. If you want to upload the PTAL you can do it through ERAS, under the letter of recommendations part. After you upload you can check it as a PTAL.

Dear friends.
I have a very important question,
I applied to the programs 10days ago, but I just realized that I havent uploaded my medical school transcript, I just did it yesterday, Is this gonna affect my application?

I would contact each program you are interested in.. to make sure your application is complete and ask if it will be reviewed or is under review.

Questions:
1. Do we need to signup for NRMP (MSMP)?
2. How do we see the LOR once it is upload to post office? I did not waive to see the letter.

I believe somebody said they got a rejection from U of Wisconsin as well.

Do you know what it means when a place sent both interviews and rejections and you don't get anything?

I just registered for NRMP (MSMP) after seeing your post (I was told that beginning of august was the time to do so). After I registered, it said that the system was unavailable - anyone else with the same issue?

It means that you have neither been rejected nor invited yet.

You will find a really phenomenal answer to your question right here.
Thank you gutonc :) I should stop trying to interpret every little thing that happens...

Would anyone mind ranking the top 10 rheumatology fellowships in the country?

Sorry. One more question. Has anyone heard of being double-boarded in rheumatology and critical care medicine. I guess you can do this is 3 years (2years rheum, 1 year ccm).

Dear friends,
I havent got any IV yet, do you guys think if there is still any chance to get any IV?

I have not but was wondering the same thing as both fields interest me. It seems most CCM programs offer the additional 1 year training spot for people who have done nephro or ID or pulm as they involve many patients in the critical care setting. I find it hard to imagine a rheum fellow transitioning to critically ill patients after 2 years in a mostly outpatient setting but its not impossible.

I called MUSC and I was told they were still reviewing applications and interview invites had not been sent out.... so confused!

The one person I know who got an MUSC invite already was med-peds. This person is not on the forum. The person who posted an MUSC invite in the forum may also be applying med-peds.

are those different tracks.. with different interviews.. because wouldn't that still be from the same program..so thats odd why wouldn't they just said interview invites have been sent out.

This is a terrible, terrible idea. If you like rheumatology you will almost certainly not like critical care medicine, and vice versa. Ask any rheumatology fellow in the world if they wish they could be doing overnight MICU shifts and have a cup of coffee while you wait for them to stop laughing.
