Official 2014-2015 Cardiology Fellowship Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have a question. I am currently on H1B, however I have a valid EAD and hopefully will be able to secure a green card within the next few months. Anyone knows what is the best thing to write in the question are you a US Citizen? Should I write pending application for permanent resident or should I state that I am currently on H1B and I will not need visa sponsorship and will use my EAD. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
I would write GC holder (you will get GC in 2-3 months from the time you got EAD). See previous discussion in this thread.

I am not sure if I will 100% get it within the next 4 months or not, to my bad luck the priority dates have regressed and I am stuck in limbo now. I think I will be able to secure it before the beginning of fellowship though. I am not sure what to do I just learned that I wont be able to get my green card today and I am freaking out.

Is anyone applying without step 3 ? still waiting for my score.... should i wait?

You have EAD Right? So you can join fellowship on that. Dont worry.

last letter submitted yesterday, still to upload. Do I apply now or wait until tomorrow? Other 3 letters are in, are programs downloading applications already?

Ahhh, understand it. but I still think you should mention GC (you already have EAD). Programs just want to know if they have to do any paperwork for your visa, which certainly is not the case with you.

My letter is finally showing up and I've applied. however, my personal statement is showing as "not uploaded to post office". Am I doing anything wrong? Do I need to do anything? Thank you.

Nope your personal statement does not need to be uploaded to EFDO, it will appear as NA on ADTS. It will be downloaded by programs directly.

For some reasons programs don't upload applications, is it everybody experience?
It is little confusing, the ERAS heading remains same "available to programs", but for some programs the color of available documents changed form grey to light blue. who knows what it means….fingers crossed:)

I think that only blue ones are downloaded which in my case is vandy, used and ccf
Thats what I thought, but apparently the program which have been sending invites early on (U roch, Baylor, Vermont etc.) haven't even turned blue. So was wondering may be blue thing is just a baloney. Thanks.

Agree! Wasting time now to check those status. Just wait for invitation next week - early Aug.

Same here. I don't think the blue thing is important. We just have to wait for the invites :)

just curious, geographic things still matter a lot for fellowship? It was rare to get IM interview for non-spanic speaker in FL or Mexico border states. still same in fellowship or fellowship can be more open for academic candidates?

Quite a few of my friends who matched for cards in California, were actually from New York and none of them spoke Spanish.... They have interpreters in all the hospitals in California, rest assured....

How do I know if programs have downloaded my application. All I am currently seeing in the ADTS system is:
Available to Program-- and this is either listing a day OR states Not yet retrieved. Will it state downloaded when the documents have been downloaded?

@matchpass did you say you got an interview from university of washington already? My friends applying to nephrology have heard back from emory and san antonio so far. Please announce when you start getting interviews.

I got the acknowledgement from University of Washington also. They have recommendations for personal statement - are you guys changing it < 300 words. In general what is the word limit for PS

1 page (12 point font), ~ 550 words.

What would you consider a top/perfect applicant?
How many original articles in peer-reviewed journals? From an ivy-league-affiliated hospital? High USMLE scores? What else?

This will give a rough answer: http://dev.im.org/Publications/Insi...s/Vol5Issue1/SelectionCriteriaFellowships.pdf
According to FPDs, the eight most important candidate selection criteria were the candidate interview, letters
of recommendation from specialists known to the FPD, the IMPD letter of recommendation, residency in a university-based program, expressed interest
in research, applicants not requiring an H-1B visa, performance during an elective at the fellowship site, and the applicant’s United States Medical Licensing
Examination scores (Table, page 10).

Thank you so much for your answers on ps

Use courier new 10 font; 0.3 left/right margins; 0.8 top/bottom margins. This is how it looks like when programs download PS. Good luck!

Hey guys, does anyone know why Univ of Maryland is not accepting applications this year into its clinical program?

Hello guys, please would you name where I can get heart failure, imaging, EP or vascular non-accridited fellowship. I see a lot of them now becoming accredited and few only around the states are available.

second question what do you think looks more important on C.V. post doctoral research fellowship or other non accredited clinical fellowships?

Thanks.

Hope to hear some good news today. Good luck everyone!

Are you done with your Cardiology fellowship? If yes then you should aim for ACGME Accredited programs only.

If you want to just beef up your CV, then you can try researching programs and see whats available. Personally, I found researching programs individually statewise and contacting the program co-ordinators directly very helpful.

As for the last question, I guess its your personal choice, if you are interested in research then go for it, if not that would be an unwise choice.

Best of luck,
