Luckily the program coordinator at Maryland must have sensed our angst and sent a regular e-mail with interview dates.

Michigan State University invite.
not sure how good they are

I am still waiting. Hopefully, I will get email soon. Btw what time you received an email from Univ. of Maryland?

Anyone else get ccf? No love from ohio for me...

Minnesota and Rutgers are the 2 big programs we are waiting for I think.

Mount Sinai again today (repeat).
I have gotten three repeat interviews this week. Declined two of them. ERAS is back up and working!

Ugh sorry man, I know how you feel. I don't think most programs like "extra" letters. Maybe she could email it to your realistic top 3?
I am unable to get in touch with her again. I did email some programs with the lor. A few replied saying they updated my file. I don't have much to lose considering that I only have 1 invite so far.

University of Maryland today!!

Good evening everyone. Lady Happy Bird in da house.

I would definitely say the interview season is NOT over yet. I think it is reasonable to expect to have several interviews by this time, but I would not say that a lack of invitation = rejection at this point. Among the five programs listed above that have not sent out invitations yet (or at least to our knowledge on this forum), I know from inside info that one of those programs has not yet sent out their first batch. Some programs were very rapid to send out interviews this season, while others had program coordinators that were on vacation for a good chunk of July, which may have slowed things down.

Keep in mind also that people are in the midst of cancelling interviews now, and there will be another large wave of cancellations in September for people that don't want to go to many of their October interviews. I was at an interview earlier this week, and another applicant and I were talking about how we probably won't have much time, energy or money to do a lot of the October interviews, so there will probably be additional cancellations in early to mid September.

Dr. VanNostran, you have already gotten some great interviews so far, keep your head up. You wouldn't have gotten those interviews without great qualifications and I'm sure you will do great in this match.

To the rest of you all, best of luck. Sometimes amazing things happen when we least expect it. My co-resident applied to heme-onc fellowship last year and his last interview invitation was in mid September, so it ain't over until it is really over.)

Thanks happy bird!! We are all hoping for the last one greeeat invite. At this point, I just want to match :luck:

For clinical practice, would it be better to practice at a program like University of Iowa or Wisconsin (NCI, VA clinic, Good clinical research, but limited demographic) or a place like NSLIJ, Methodist (houston), Loyola (Not NCI, very diverse demographic, decent clinic research)? Not looking for a ranking, just a general philosophy...Thanks

I think it depends on each individual program as the clinic setup varies drastically.

Hey everyone,

I am an IMG interested in heme, with decent research and looking for an academic career. I am looking to cancel 3 or 4 interviews. Any suggestions?

· Vanderbilt
· MD Anderson
· OHSU
· Yale
· Hopkins
· Mayo
· UC Irvine
· Boston University
· Wash U
· Emory
· University of Miami
· Indiana University
· Tufts
· University of Arizona
· Fox Chase
· Iowa
· Wisconsin Med College

First, Congratulations on great interviews. These are all dream programs for everyone here.
personally, my less preferred are Wisconsin med college,OHSU, Uni. of Miami , Emory, Indiana Univ.
Probably, these are all great programs but less preferred in your situation. I would personally take all above except Miami.

drop miami, irvine, tufts, BU, wisconsin medical

Van Nostran - I would stick with U of Iowa or Wisconsin; the VA alone will add a lot to your experience and I think the demographic will be more diverse, at least socioeconomically, than is apparent. Ultimately you'll possibly be looking outside the regions of NSLIJ, Methodist, Loyola, etc., and coming from a NCI with more opportunities to shine would help you land a job later on down the road. My $0.02, of course.

I would personally recommend training at the University-based programs rather than the community-affiliated ones. There were two attendings at my residency program who did private practice for many years, and after 10+ got tired of it and decided to swing to academics. They had trained at very good academic programs at had not problem adjusting to the expectations of an academic institution (including research).

I think that training at a University-based program will open more doors for you, especially if you change your mind later in your career about where you want to be.

Agree 100% with dropping U Miami.

Thanks guys! I really wanted to focus on phase 1-2 clinical trials, I think a few of the programs will let me do that. Has anyone heard from Rutgers or Nebraska?
