Harbor-UCLA (8/18). Many interview dates. Very kind coordinator.
Olive view-UCLA (8/19). Good number of interview dates. Seem very accommodating.

Georgetown vs Ohio State vs. Colorado

Which one to cancel? Which one to keep?

I think these are all really solid programs. Would vote for Ohio State, but I'm just a fellow applicant and really don't know any better.

Colorado ~= tOSU > GTown.

You could do worse by choosing based on location.

You must be killing it, because if I got an interview offer at Ohio State, I'd definitely be bumping something off my list for it. There were few programs that I was crossing my fingers for an interview from like I was for Ohio State (even though it's nowhere near where I or my wife have roots).

Regarding which program is best, I think Ohio State is extremely strong in terms of genetics and is very strong in other areas. The institution has phenomenal basic science and social science centers and researchers, which I think probably makes the program the richest of the three that you list. But I suspect the difference between Ohio State and Colorado is ultimately small enough that it comes down to who you are and where you feel comfortable.

Colorado seems to be a slightly underrated, very high quality program, but I don't know that much about it. I have literally NEVER heard a bad thing about Denver from people who have lived there. The overall quality of life seems to be way above average. Also, Denver Aiport is a major hub for so many airlines, making it relatively easy to find inexpensive nonstop flights to all corners of the US.

I have spent some time at Georgetown and was underwhelmed, although it's obviously a world class institution overall.

If you are like most trainees in categorical, university-based IM programs, you have the time/energy/money for no more then 12 interviews. Keep scheduling until you hit that number. Try to space them out. Expect serious fatigue; you will probably stop between 8 and 10.

Adding UPenn.

has cincinnati confirmed the dates to the second round and third round invites?? its been 3 days and not a word..

Some places I applied to took a couple days to get back so I wouldn't sweat too much. One place took almost a week, but at that point I did send a follow-up email to make sure mine wasn't lost in the 80 emails the PC probably got that day

haha yeah , my concern is that sometimes they will send out 15 invites for 10 spots, and then what happens when 11 people confirm? But as long as all of us are on the same boat... thats good... SDN to the rescue ! :)

Hi All,
I am just feeling depressed......no interview at all!
I know I don't have great credentials like most of you, but still........!
IMG not requiring visa (US citizen), great USMLE scores, oncology hospitalist with a reputable cancer center, board certified in Palliative care, not much research, some posters. I applied to only 15 programs in the area as I would ideally not like to move.
What should I do now??
email or call programs where I applied?
Apply to more programs.......which ones??....something else?

Just disappointed! :(

Don't feel depressed. No rejections means you're still in consideration. Most programs go in waves and you may make the second or third round. Has your home program sent out interviews yet?

Your mentors at the home institution should be able to help. I've always been told phone calls have more impact come rank time and don't know how much value a phone call has in the pre-interview stage. Others may be better to comment on that part.

Hang in there! For this cycle you have done best you could do. At least that's how I think about it. And there is still some time left including scramble.

First of all, you probably need to be a little more patient. Unless you've gotten 14 rejections, you're still in the game.

Next though, you need to decide what you would prefer. Do you want to be an oncologist? Or do you want to not move? You may not get to do both.

Good luck.

Definitely frustrating. I wish most programs would just use an electronic signup system like residency interviews. I basically had to email several programs the same dates of preferences but in different orders because I would not get a response back for several days.

Tulane vs. UT Memphis?

Sorry to keep asking about largely mediocre programs. But I really have no idea how to tell which is better.

Interested in med onc and academics.

If it were just up to me, I would go anywhere and do as much hard work as it takes to become an oncologist. But, it means I will have to make my spouse quit a great job.......!
Thanks for your words of hope, though.

I agree that the online scheduling system is a wonderful tool and I think it would be awesome if more programs used them. VCU has been the only program that I've seen using it so far. I think it would make it much easier for everyone involved.
